TRAFFIC AGREEMENT

I AM NEVER UNDER THE INFLUENCE WHILE IN TRAFFIC

I never set off on a journey unless I am in a state to do so, whether due to intoxication, mental state, fatigue or other factors that may affect my ability to participate in traffic. I never drive after having alcohol.

I USE TURN SIGNALS IN A PROPER MANNER

I signal if I need to turn or move between lanes. This way, other road users know where I am heading and can adjust to help, as well as making it easier for traffic in general.

I RESPECT THE SPEED LIMIT

I neither drive too fast nor do anything reckless, as this creates danger, inconvenience and insecurity for others. I let drivers pass me, if I drive slower than they do and the circumstances allow it, as overtaking can be dangerous and is always the responsibility of both parties. I adjust my bicycle speed to the conditions and pay special attention to pedestrians.

I DON'T LET A PHONE OR OTHER THINGS DISTRACT ME

I pay attention to traffic, don't let my phone or anything else distract me, and thus show other road users the respect they deserve.

I WILL NOT RUN A RED LIGHT

I respect the rights of other road users at intersections. I do not drive, walk, scoot, or cycle against a red light. In this way, I contribute to the safety and normal flow of traffic.

I KEEP AN APPROPRIATE DISTANCE (BASED ON SPEED)

I will be careful to maintain a safe distance between myself and other road users, whether driving, walking, scootering, cycling or other types of traffic, thus avoiding accidents even if other road users have to stop.

I SAY THANK YOU

I display positivity and courtesy in traffic. I say thank you, for example by smiling or waving. In this way, I contribute to a better traffic culture.

I USE THE "GEAR METHOD" WHEN APPROPRIATE

I show respect to other road users by using the cogwheel (gear) method when possible. I use turn signals to let others know which way I am going. This improves the flow of traffic and increases my safety and the safety of others.

I KEEP TO THE RIGHT SIDE

I keep to the right in traffic, whether in a car, scooter, bicycle or other vehicle, whether I am on a roadway, sidewalk or footpath. In this way, I show others the consideration they deserve and contribute to safe and orderly traffic. As a pedestrian, I contribute to good cooperation with cyclists, on sidewalks and footpaths, by moving to the right when I become aware of them, to prevent collisions.

I AM VISIBLE

I do my best to be seen in traffic, for example by using lights, reflectors or high visibility clothing when appropriate, so that other road users are aware of me. I take care when crossing the street, making sure that oncoming drivers have seen me beforehand and use a crosswalk when it is nearby. As a cyclist, I position myself so that I am visible, to ensure my own safety and that of others. I let pedestrians know I am approaching by waving or ringing my bell and carefully pass them on the left side, if possible. This way I ensure that a collision will not occur.

I PARK LEGALLY

I park legally because I respect the right of all road users to move safely. In this way, I ensure that pedestrians are not inconvenienced or forced into the street. I park far enough away from crosswalks to provide a clear view for drivers and pedestrians.

I TAKE THE CIRCUMSTANCES INTO ACCOUNT

I always drive carefully where pedestrians, scooters and cyclists may be present and ensure that I do not cause an accident. I practice special caution near schools and residential areas. I drive carefully where there is a crosswalk and stop for pedestrians.

I SHOW RESPONSIBILITY

I always behave in traffic in a manner that will not cause an accident. I am responsible for my behavior and the impact it will have on my safety and the safety of other road users. I use appropriate safety equipment to ensure my safety and that of others.
